This year, Chesterton High School will be putting on their 21st annual Family Theater Production. The performance will be a staged adaptation of The Day The Crayons Quit (and) The Day The Crayons Came Home by Drew Daywalt. The show includes everything from a confused crayon that loves to travel to a crayon who just can not handle the workload of coloring.
“Family Theatre Productions have traditionally been based on children’s literature. We needed a script that would be easy and natural to keep distance, and we also needed to find a play that could be done with simple sets and costumes. These two books came to my mind immediately. I personally reached out to the author, Drew Daywalt, and he graciously helped us form a contract to perform his stories on the stage,” says the show’s director, Justin Martinson.
“This year’s winter play is different from past years in one just word: Virtual. This year, the play is being live-streamed through an online production platform, and it has been filmed in such a way that it is enjoyable to watch, rather than just a single camera standing still in front of the stage,” states the show’s stage manager, senior Elia Livovich.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the cast and crew will be recording the performance and it will be available through a website that will send the buyer a link to the performance. The tickets are $10 and you will receive a link to the performance at each specific time and date that they are scheduled for. The link will give you one opportunity to view it. On the website, you will find a place to purchase tickets, a place to learn about the cast and crew, and a place to donate to the program if the purchaser chooses to.
“It is a sweet and cute show, adapted from a well-known children’s book by Drew Daywalt, and it can be greatly enjoyed by adults and children alike. With the challenges that the pandemic presents, it is definitely a labor of love for everyone involved and it is incredibly special to us,” says senior Emily Loney about the show.
