Chesterton Requesting Input for Tree Planting Placement

Help your community flourish!

As spring nears, Chesterton is requesting help from its residents to collectively decide on planting locations for trees.

2022 marks Chesterton’s 27th year as being a participant as a Tree City USA designee. Every year the goal remains: the minimum number of trees planted should be the number of trees that were removed the previous year. The Street Department is currently undergoing the process for applying and obtaining a U.S. Forest Service grant in order to plant as many as 35 trees this coming April. The trees would be of no charge to residents who fit the qualifications and will be planted by the Street Department.

Those who are eligible to receive a tree or more, must reside in the Town of Chesterton. The trees will be preferably planted in residential locations in the downtown area where a surplus of trees have been removed- however, other sites in Chesterton will be evaluated.
