On February 4th the girls’ basketball team ended their season with a 64-27 loss against Merrillville. The Lady Trojans put up a hard fight, however, it was not enough to get past a tough and well-organized Pirate team. They ended their season with a record of 11 wins and 12 losses.

The wins against Portage, Michigan City, and Laporte contributed to the Trojans’ fifth-place finish in the DAC. The game against Portage was a highly anticipated game with the Trojans coming back after being down in the third quarter to secure the win. This game was also a favorite among the players due to a late comeback.

Junior Chloe Wisniewski explained, “My favorite part of the season was when we beat Portage.”

The Lady Trojans had two four-game winning streaks, the longest this season. Their first streak came with wins against Westville (40-37), Munster (55-18), Mishawaka (58-40), and Hammond Morten (57-25) from November 6th to November 16th. From December 30th to January 14th the Trojans beat Kokomo (48-45), Hobart (53-36), Laporte (50-16), and Hanover Central (33-29).

The coach, Jack Campbell, was proud of his team for overcoming many obstacles “I thought we had a very good year considering the number of sicknesses, quarantines, and injuries throughout the season” Campbell expressed.

The players are already looking forward to next season. “Next year I’m looking forward to playing one last time with my closest friends and the girls I’ve grown up with,” Wisniewski stated.

Chesterton Lady Trojans have announced the upcoming freshman having incredible potential, and being led by the upcoming senior class, are anticipated to have a phenomenal season.
