On March 12, the Chesterton Dance Team competed in the IHSDTA state championship. The dance team gave it their all on stage and finished in second place to 7-time state champion Mitchell High School. This was a fantastic achievement for a hardworking team.

Marley Mayer, a freshman, had a fantastic time competing in such a high-level event. “My favorite part about the state championship was waiting to walk onto the floor and seeing how packed the stands were with teams and spectators. Other teams were standing and cheering for us, and so were our parents! It was such an exciting environment to be in,” Mayer stated.

The dancers were thrilled and grateful to have made it this far when Chesterton was revealed as runner-up. “When they said that we got second place, I was so excited and proud. We have worked so hard all season and to see that all our hard work has paid off makes me so happy,” explained junior Kaley Wissing.

This performance was extremely memorable for the dancers because it was their final performance together this season. “It was an honor to get second at state as a brand new team doing kick. I felt very happy, but melancholy at the same time because it was the last time performing with our senior Ellery Brunt, who founded the dance team.” Teagan Wheeling, a sophomore, concluded.

This season, Brunt is the sole senior on the competition team. The dance team will be returning next year with an extremely talented squad and is hoping to build off their success next season.
