Girl’s Softball prepares for the 2022 season
Preview of CHS’s Girls Softball Team
March 28, 2022
The Chesterton High School Softball season is set to begin on March 29, and the team is very excited to get back out onto the field and show their competition that CHS means business. Expectations are high for the team as they have some solid returning players such as Hope Matta, Jade Lloyd, Mariah Vagner, Gillian Price, and many others who are great players. Many of the players are going into this season prepared like Lloyd, who in her offseason practiced with the Crown Point Bulldogs, and Vagner who in her offseason played travel ball. The coach of the softball team, CHS math teacher, Erin Cochran, is very excited to get the season started.
“Just getting the kids back out there is something I look forward to the most as we have a young group with new students joining us this year I want to see what they can do,” Cochran stated.
Cochran is constantly giving the team motivation and consistently practices throughout the week to prepare for the upcoming season. Many members of the team are also excited about the season this year.
“I am most excited to see how our team does since we’re a younger team this year, and to see if we can win the sectional and then move on to regionals since this is my last year.” said senior Jade Lloyd.
During this season, the team will consist of 31 players: 15 for the varsity team, and 16 for the JV. The new season also brings new challenges the team will have to face.
“I would say that with having a younger team, it will be difficult to get our rhythm for the first few games of the season,” said the junior Vagner. Another challenge the Trojans may face this season is the level of competition, In fact, coach Cochran states “The schools who will be our biggest challenges and who will provide the best competition this season are Crown Point and Lake Central.”
The team will begin their season at Chesterton High School on Tuesday March 29, where they will take on Hobart High School at 4:30 pm.

I am glad that the sandscript is writing things about the team. It realy shows that our school thinks about all the teams and I would love to see more about softball.
