On Saturday, March 12,  the girl’s varsity Track and Field team competed in their second meet of the season at the Bulldog invite at Purdue Fort Wayne. The Lady Trojans dominated the competition and took the championship title for the night. The success these girls saw was a result of their dedication both in and off-season.

“The girls are successful because they have been putting in the work since the wintertime and are highly motivated,” head coach Lindsey Mosklick explains.

The girls placed top three in six races and in one field event. Senior Camryn Dunn placed first in the 60-meter dash achieving a new personal record time of 7.64. In the previous season, the girls qualified both their 4×800 meter relay and their 4×400 meter relay in the IHSAA State meet. This season, athletes from each of these events have returned. Saturday night, the relay team of senior Bella Smith, and juniors Bridget Raffin, Ingrid Hurst, and Brianna Hardsock placed second in the 4×400 meter. The 4×800 team consisted of senior Bailey Ranta and Bree Gentry, junior Alyssa Dunlap, and sophomore Ciara Bonner who placed first at the competition. The 4×200 meter relay made up of Dunn, junior Olivia Kozak, Hurst, and Hardsock placed second as well as the  Distance-Medley relay (DMR) of senior Gentry, Dunn, Ranta, and Bonner. In the 3200-meter race, senior Catherine White took second place with a time of 11:36. Last but not least, Senior Madison Davis, who, last season, broke the CHS school record in shot put by two feet, placed third with a 37’1.5 distance.

Racking up 129.5 points and placing first overall with Fort Wayne Carroll just behind them, the girls saw amazing success at the Bulldog invite beginning their season on a great note.

“It was a good win. Going into the meet, I was hoping we would win as a team. In the upcoming meets, I am hopeful our team will really shine. We have returned a lot of our top athletes and gained a few who will be making an immediate impact,” Moskalick adds.

The Trojans will return to competition on March 26 at the HSR finals in Bloomington for their third meet of the Track and Field indoor season. The first outdoor season meet will be held at Chesterton on April 6 where hopefully, the girls will continue to shine.
