Football Steps Down to 5A

Trojans will compete in smaller athletic division in fall of 2022

The Chesterton Trojans, along with a DAC foe, the Merrillville Pirates, as well as the Fort Wayne Snider Panthers have dropped down to the 5A football division per the IHSAA. Chesterton had a tough sectional loss against Penn, the game ending 10-6. Teams move up and drop down due to tournament success, student population size, records, etc. Chesterton went down to 5A because we no longer have one the top 32 enrollments of students in the state regarding student population. Chesterton was previously the smallest in the 6A division with just over 2,000 students. On the flip side, the population difference between a school like Carmel, which has approximately 5,200 students, provides a stiffer competition with a slight disadvantage to the school with less students.  With a more equal size division, the Trojans should thrive and have a very successful season this fall.
