Heartbreaking Defeat for CHS Football at IHSAA Sectionals

On Friday, November 4th, Chesterton Trojans went up against the Valparaiso Vikings in their biggest game of the season: the sectional championship. Though there were some great plays back and forth, the Vikings started strong, and the Trojans couldn’t catch up. Valpo started the first quarter strong with two touchdowns, netting both point after attempts which set the score at 14-0. The Trojans kept working their way up the field, but Valpo kept finding ways to put a stop to the drive.

The cycle continued until the fourth quarter when the Trojans made a comeback on a 4-yard touchdown pass from Sebastian Boswell to Tyler Peterson. Then, a successful PAT from Alex Drewes brought the Trojans within a score. Chesterton kept pushing until the last moments of the game when a heartbreaking interception gave the ball to Valparaiso, leaving the Trojans heartbroken after being defeated by the Vikings.

Even though the Trojans didn’t end their season victorious, they definitely ended their season on a high note. Although they went 5-6, they won against some really skilled teams, including the #1 team in 5A, and left it all on the field this season for every game. They made each game an experience to remember. While the Trojans will graduation some significant talent, the team will also return some key players to next year’s roster.  The future looks bright for this football program.
