Cookies! We all know and love the simple hand-held dessert. For centuries people have enjoyed cookies. Different countries and cultures have their own definition of cookies, and they are delicious in their own unique ways.
It is believed that cookies originated in Persia around the 7th century. The sweet treat was created when bakers would test the temperature of their ovens. Bakers would scoop a small amount of cake batter and place it in the oven to determine if it was hot enough. By the 1600s, cookies made their way across the Atlantic Ocean and were introduced to America.
In the 1930s, chef Ruth Graves Wakefield accidentally created an iconic cookie. Wakefield was baking cookies and ran out of baker’s chocolate, a less sweet chocolate used in many dessert recipes. This predicament led to Wakefield needing to use her imagination to complete the recipe. Wakefield decided to use some semi-sweet chocolate chips in place of the baker’s chocolate. To her surprise, the cookies were a great success!
Since the day of Wakefield’s delicious accident, chocolate chip cookies have taken over in popularity. CHS junior, Tyler Brown, commented on the yummy treat.
“My grandma always makes great chocolate chip cookies and I really enjoy them,” mentioned Brown.
People have altered the classic recipe to best fit their liking. Some chocolate chip cookie recipes result in a thin, crispy cookie. Others may produce a thick and fluffy cookie. Finding the middle ground is crucial in order to construct the perfect cookie. I have spent months trying to create the perfect, most amazing chocolate chip cookie recipe and I want to share it with you.

In my opinion, this recipe for chocolate chip cookies is the best. Each thick cookie is packed with chocolate chips to ensure each bite is as delicious as the first one. The fluffy texture makes for a light treat you are sure to enjoy. Each cookie has a perfect flavor balance so the sweetness is not too overpowering. These cookies also make great ice cream sandwiches! Just add a scoop of your favorite ice cream between two cookies. The recipe yields around sixty cookies that are about 4 inches in diameter, so I encourage you to share them with your friends and family, or you can always enjoy the delightful goody all to yourself!
