It’s no secret that violence in schools has increased over the past two decades. Schools across the country have sought to find ways to stop this growing trend in its tracks. Chesterton High School has adopted a new system called the Anonymous Reporting system tip line. This is a system that the Sandy Hook Promise is sending out to students. The tip line is going to be very beneficial to everyone, as it is for violence protection. It offers safety to every single person, student and staff. Students and staff can send tips to the team in charge, and they can discreetly find solutions. This issue involves any threatening behavior, self-harm threats, or anything people believe could be a concern. Many people feel the Sandy Hook Promise will bring us all together.
“Sandy Hook Promise has made us more connected. It’s made us more united. It’s obviously made us safer and it’s made us more informed of the things we need to do to continue to grow as a district for all of our students,” Superintendent of the Aztec Municipal School District Kirk Carpenter says.
This system will work very well, as to protect yourself and others from any harm. Students and staff who send in tips identity will remain anonymous, so they can address concerns.
The Anonymous Reporting system tip line can help address bullying and harassment, which some students face, and have trouble standing up for themselves. They can provide the tips in person. The Duneland School Corporation wants to offer a safe environment for all students and staff. This tip line is provided for students and staff at all times by the school, and The Sandy Hook Promise.
Just this week, a vague threat was made to our school. An anonymous individual sent a tip to the Anonymous Reporting system tip line. After further investigation, School Resource Officers and CHS administration learned that the threat was concluded as non-credible, and fake. Because of the Anonymous Reporting system tip line, the students who were responsible for the threat made were criminally charged.
There are many ways that anyone can contact them. This program has proven itself to be extremely effective, and according to many other schools, this program has shown to reduce the amount of violence, bullying, self-harm and many other negative, harming behaviors.
Sandy Hook Promise invited Duneland School Corporation to launch the program for students in grades 5-12. Trained professionals in high crisis situations will be receiving the tips.
“Everyone deserves to feel safe and supported while they are on our campuses every day,” Chesterton High School Principal Brent Martinson said.
The Anonymous Reporting system tip line is a great addition to school protection.
