Advisory and SRT have significantly changed the 2023-2024 school year. All students should be aware that SRT has now been moved to 6th block as well as your advisory class. One reason the SRT has been moved to 6th block is to ensure each student gets an equal opportunity to receive help from teachers or work on school work independently to achieve their academic goals.
Students should understand that SRT is designed to help students and is not a designated break period. Make sure you bring something to do every SRT period, whether it is homework or bringing in a book to read, this is students’ time to be most resourceful.
As for students’ advisory period, the advisory teacher students have been assigned should still be the same unless other changes have been made. Advisory takes up the first thirty minutes of SRT at the beginning of 6th block on the first gold day of every week. The major change made to advisory is that class time will not be shortened and all classes will remain at the standard scheduled time.
Unfortunately, students have not taken so kindly to the change. Many feel that advisory takes away from students’ study and work time, causing them to not get adequate time to spend on getting work done.
“I think that the new schedule for advisory is confusing for the students that have been here for the past few years,” says junior Taylor Layman passionately.
In the past few years, many students expressed their feelings toward advisory and why it took valuable time away from their education. But with the change in schedule, students are even more frustrated that their own time to work is now being shortened. Especially since most students have extra-curricular activities and/or jobs, extra time to get assignments done and study is very important.
But the main concern is that students who have been here for a couple of years are taking a while to get used to the schedule change.
“It’s a little confusing to get used to,” expresses junior Olivia Sundquist, “I kind of wish it didn’t take time out of our regular SRT, but it will just take time to get used to,” she concluded.
Now that the residents of CHS are starting to get back into the daily routine of school, students are hoping that the new schedule will get less frustrating. I highly recommend that students not only use the time they have wisely, but also learn good time management skills and how to balance their time. SRT is a great resource at CHS, do not waste it!
