Chesteron Is currently expanding its license plate camera program. The new camera will be located on the west side of town, at Country Road 1050 North near State Road 149. The camera will be used to track stolen cars and scan for warrants on vehicles. It is important to know that the camera does not take pictures of the occupants of the vehicle nor does it monitor the speed of the vehicle. Some CHS students are confused about the timing of the decision.
“I think that it is really weird that they are doing this now,” CHS senior Emma Skalka said.
Other students think these cameras can bring positive change to the community. These students believe that the cameras can make the roads and community a safer place.
“I think that they are good thing: they take criminals off the road,’’ senior John Herzog added. “Depending on the warrant like a DUI, they are very beneficial.
In the end, it seems as if the Duneland Community can expect to see the continued installation of these security systems. It will take time and experience with the cameras to fully decide whether they are effective, or invasive.
