Each year students in the CHS music department wait with great anticipation for the announcement of the annual Chesterton Musical. Prior to the selection of the musical, Director Miss Morris uses her TikTok account to run a teaser series for the announcement, where she gives hints as to what the choice might be. Recently, Morris completed her big reveal on TikTok and the choice is in: the musical will be Pippin by Bob Fosse and Roger O. Hirson. One year will be a widely known musical followed by a more niche musical. Pippin is a story following a young prince who wants to explore the passion and adventure that life has to offer. He seeks this need for excitement out on the battlefield, where he realizes that he is not cut out for battle. Instead, he enjoys life’s simpler pleasures, only until he realizes he must fight back against his father, King Charlemagne. He leads the revolution against his father and becomes the new king after taking his father’s life.
“I just thought it was kind of a change of pace from last year, there’s quite a few more supporting roles so it’s not so focused on one main character so it kind of provides more opportunities for a lot of other students to have a vocal solo or some speaking and present moments on the stage. It’s a change of pace from the show that we did last year,” Director Miss Morris said.
The Leading Player, or narrator of sorts, is played by Sophomore Ava Cunningham and Senior Sofia Cunningham. The lead role, Pippin, is played by Senior Luke Housman. Charles is played by Junior Cooper Fowler, Lewis by Senior Payton Whalen, and Fastrada by Senior Hailey Nevious. The main love interest, Catherine, is played by Sophomore Karleigh Pawlyszyn. Berthe is played by Senior Kassidy Miller and Theo is played by Freshman Sam Smith. Morris has expressed excitement about this year’s show and how it will unravel.
“I’m always excited about doing new things and just kind of seeing how the kids interpret the material that’s given to them,” Morris said.
The fall musical begins on November 16 and continues until the 18th. Join Pippin on his quest to happiness and come see the fall musical! Tickets are not available currently but will be closer to the premiere.
