The Toronto-born rapper we all know and love, Drake, released another album called For All the Dogs. The long-awaited album is finally here after being postponed multiple times over the past few months. The album officially dropped on October 6th at 6 a.m. EST. and has already gained plenty of attention. FATD is the 8th studio album released by Drake and it contains 23 incredible tracks with features from Teezo Touchdown, 21 Savage, J. Cole, SZA, PARTYNEXTDOOR, and many other notorious rappers and hip-hop artists.
Over the summer, Drake began his “It’s All A Blur” tour of the United States and Canada with rapper 21 Savage. Early in the tour, Drake announced at a concert that he would be dropping new music soon.
“With that being said, I got an album coming out real soon for y’all, it’s called For All The Dogs,” stated Drake back in July at the first show of the tour in Chicago.
Video recordings of that particular moment went viral on all social media platforms and Drake fans started spiraling. The last album Drake released was back in November of 2022, and fans, including myself, were thrilled at the possibility of getting more content from him. For weeks, Drake went on teasing the album and fans were eager to know more. In early September, Drake announced on social media that the album would be released on Friday, September 22nd. The week of the 22nd, Drake made a public announcement and informed fans that the album would be delayed two more weeks. Drake decided to delay the album’s release instead of canceling shows from his tour to finish working on the album. While this news disheartened fans, the difficult decision was for the best.
On October 5th, almost two weeks later, the rapper announced that For All the Dogs would officially be released on October 6th at 6 a.m. EST. This was a surprise to many as new music usually comes out at midnight EST. Passionate Drake fans set alarms for the new music so they could wake up and stream the album first thing in the morning. I am one of those passionate fans, and the loss of sleep was absolutely worth it. My personal favorites from the album included “Amen” featuring Teezo Touchdown, “Drew a Picasso”, and “Members Only” featuring PARTYNEXTDOOR.
“Amen” is the second track on For All the Dogs and is my top favorite. Teezo Touchdown, an American rapper who recently gained the spotlight from his features on Travis Scott’s album UTOPIA, had a fantastic feature on this song. Teezo’s unique and fresh vocals paired with Drake’s classic freestyling make for the perfect combination. Teezo and Drake come together to create an upbeat tune that you’ll want to keep going back to, just like I did.
“Drew a Picasso”, the 13th track on the album, is in a deserving 2nd place for my favorites. This song has a slow and moody vibe, making Drake’s vocals sound impeccable. This song was a little different from the usual fast-rapping we can expect from Drake and reminded me a lot of his older songs from his albums Take Care and Nothing Was the Same. This song felt oddly nostalgic and was incredible to listen to.
Earning 3rd place for my personal favorites is “Members Only”, the 14th song which features PARTYNEXTDOOR. The slow beats and lyrical flow of “Members Only” will have you listening to this song on replay. When Canadian rappers Drake and PARTYNEXTDOOR collaborate, you can always expect something new which is always refreshing to hear. They have produced music together on popular songs such as “Recognize”, “LOYAL”, and “Come and See Me”. “Members Only” joins these songs as yet another successful alliance between the two songwriters.
Out of 23 unforgettable tracks, there are hardly any skips or misses. Drake truly has blessed his fans with another iconic album that people will remember. I can’t wait to see how this album ages as more people continue to listen to it. For All the Dogs truly has some madness and badness, combination.
