Another first-place trophy has been added to the CHS Trojan Guard’s display case. These talented musicians competed at Penn High School’s “Carnival of Bands” Invitational on September 23, performing their 2023 show titled “Dancing in the Dark”. While competing in the most competitive class in the state, the Trojans did not fail to improve from their last performance to win Class A, all while receiving caption awards for Best Music and Best Effect.
The Trojan Guard’s best performance was at the September 29 home football game as they put on their fourth movement for the first time. The crowd’s reaction was something that the marching band had not felt in a long time from a half-time performance.
“The highlight of our season so far would definitely be last Friday’s football game, we put four on the move for the first time, and the crowd was actually attentive for once. Every performance is awesome, and just watching the reaction of people feels great because our show this year is awesome,” said senior Allison Novreske.
Also adding to their amazing wrap sheet for the year, on September 30, the Trojan Guard traveled to Plymouth High School to compete in the Indiana State School Music Association (ISSMA) preliminary contest. The marching band earned a Gold Rating along with two “With Distinction” awards for their great scores on their music and also their visuals. The Trojan Guard received the highest score in their class, which will send them off to the Scholastic State Finals Competition hosted by Franklin Central High School in Indianapolis on October 14.
Chesterton’s Marching Band hosted their annual community night this past weekend where they showcased their amazing 2023 show “Dancing in the Dark” at the CHS Stadium. This performance was free and open to the public for all to come and support our amazing band. This exhibition included an explanation of the design and creativity that went into making the show, recognition of the CHS Trojan Guard Alumni present, and recognition of the Trojan Guard senior class. That was the last time the Trojan Guard performed for the public community. It was amazing to see the great turnout and the alumni supporting our band!
Clearly, the 2023 Chesterton Trojan Guard is having a wonderful season so far and they have more to come. Make sure to show your support as they travel off to State!
