Work has started on a new fourteen story development in Michigan City. The development is marketed as an upmarket resort near the picturesque Indiana dunes with luxury hotels, world class restaurants and retail space.
“When we set out to design the SoLo Development, we knew it had to be beautiful and state-of-the-art, reflecting the natural beauty of the lakeshore as well as the innovative nature of Michigan City itself,” YAB partner Barry Schain wrote for a September 15, 2023, ‘Inside Indiana Business,’ article.
The $280 million dollar investment is expected to contribute $680 million dollars to the region’s economy over the next 20 years. The complex is going to be located in the newly designed Michigan City Transit Oriented Development The main tower will include luxury boutique hotels such as TRYP by Wyndham and Trademark Collections. The secondary tower will include a 164 unit apartment block with a recreation center. The development will also include 17 lakefront duplexed townhomes. The residents of these properties will have access to hotel amenities such as the 15,000 square foot swimming pool, and a 396 space parking lot.
The development will come on the heels of the completion of the South Shore Line’s $649 million dollar double track initiative. This is expected to cut the average commuting time from Chicago by 20 minutes.
The development is expected to generate 800 new jobs and 292 permanent jobs. The hotels are projected to see 100,000 guests per year and provide $10 million in tourism revenue. The Development is projected to be completed in spring 2026.
