To prepare the students of CHS for their future outside of high school, Chesterton High School offers a Work Ethics Certification program. This is a great opportunity for students to learn what it is to be successful in all different aspects of life. Every student has the opportunity to sign up and participate in the program. The Work Ethics program is a great way to get the attention of colleges, internships, jobs, and scholarships. This program is specifically designed to aid students in the right direction. Many employers have expressed an interest in working with employees who have the characteristics of work ethic skills.
“Employers search for certain kinds of skills that are not explicitly taught in schools. So it is a program that teaches not only ethical skills but also social ones. These skills not only help you get but also help you keep jobs. Employers value and pay attention to people that show these skills.” Mrs. Kurzinski said.
For students to earn the work ethics certificate, they must display their understanding of the 10 employer expectations. These expectations include showing a positive attitude, working well with others, being honest and having integrity, arriving on time, following directions, recognizing problems and finding solutions, applying good listening skills, time management, maintaining a safe work environment, respecting diversity and exercising tolerance.
If you would like to sign up to work toward earning your certification, you can sign up in the main office. If you have any additional questions, please contact Mrs. Kurzinski at [email protected] or Mr. Martinson at [email protected].
