The CHS girls’ volleyball team lost to Crown Point in the sectional finals on Saturday, October 14, but that doesn’t take away from their phenomenal season. The Trojans lost a hard-fought match 3-1, bringing an end to their season, but Saturday wasn’t completely filled with loss. Chesterton faced off with Lowell in the second round of sectionals and the girls looked spectacular. They took down the Red Devils 3-1 with little resistance; only losing one set.
Despite their loss, the Trojans had a season filled with highlights, the most notable of these being their win over the state-ranked Slicers from Laporte. The girls also went on a 9-game win streak and went 13-2 from August 26-September 14.
The Trojans also had some great individual performances throughout the season. Sophomore Tenley Davis led the team in serving aces and kills with 62 and 395 respectively. Davis also surpassed 500 career kills this season, which is insane for a sophomore. Junior Marissa Roe led the Trojans in total blocks with 98, and senior Riley Tosseng followed close behind with 95. Tosseng was also the leader in hitting percentage with a .263. Senior libero Kylie Campbell had the most digs and receptions for the Trojans with 293 digs and 396 receptions. Sophomore Abby Parrish finished the season with an astounding 773 assists, with the second most being 97.
Despite their postseason run coming to an earlier ending than they would have liked, the CHS girl’s volleyball team had a spectacular season overall. Although there are some seniors graduating, the hopes for a deep postseason run next year are high. Make sure to congratulate the Lady Trojans in the halls. Onward Trojans!
