Thanksgiving is a wonderful holiday, not just for family but also for the bellies of those families. With the beloved holiday right around the corner, it is time to start planning the kinds of dishes that will be featured. Food is the center of this holiday and it would not be complete without it. Here is a list of the best and worst foods passed around the Thanksgiving table.
Green Bean Casserole- 8th Place
Coming in at number eight as the worst Thanksgiving food of all kinds is going to be the green bean casserole. Most Americans alike can agree that this dish is just simply terrible. It’s bland, it features one of the worst vegetables, and it’s a horrendous consistency. It is also very unappealing to the eyes and all people tend to eat with their eyes before their mouths and this dish does not make the eyes happy.
Cranberry Sauce- 7th Place
In seventh place has to be the infamous cranberry sauce. Now this one goes hand-in-hand with the next food on this list. I truly believe that the only reason people continue to eat cranberry sauce is because it is a tradition to have at a Thanksgiving dinner. Studies even show that many Americans actually strongly dislike cranberry sauce but they buy it each year because it’s been around for so long that they cannot switch it up.
Stuffing- 6th Place
Going hand-in-hand with the last dish, in sixth place is stuffing. This one may be strongly controversial and it even hurts me a little to place it in the worst foods category. My main issue with stuffing is the texture. If made by the wrong person, stuffing can make a hard left turn and fast. Yes, that is true for every dish ever. That may be true, but for stuffing everything has to be perfect for it to be even considerably good. If one thing is off, the entire dish should be thrown away.
Turkey- 5th Place
In fifth place, the staple food of the holiday as a whole, is turkey. This one goes without deep explanation. Every turkey is dry and it is the inferior Thanksgiving meat. Every turkey I’ve ever consumed has left me disappointed. On top of being a bad meat overall, it is extremely difficult to prepare the correct way which might be another factor into why it is so bad. Turkey is another one of those foods that people stick to on holidays simply because it’s what we’re used to.
Mashed Potatoes- 4th Place
Moving into the good half of the list, at number four is mashed potatoes. You can’t go wrong with any form of potato, let alone mashed. Mashed potatoes are so creamy and have a great overall taste no matter what it is paired with. It is one of the superior sides for any meal, especially a Thanksgiving one. It can be cooked with many spices or very little at all and it is still amazing either way. It is one of the few dishes that still tastes well when under-seasoned.
Sweet potatoes- 3rd Place
Coming in third place are sweet potatoes. All while being one of the most nutritious vegetables that you could eat, sweet potatoes still manage to have an amazing taste. The sweet goodness paired with brown sugar, a tasty glaze. Simply amazing.
Ham- 2nd Place
Taking the spot for the number one meat consumed at Thanksgiving but number two on this list is ham. Ham is the kind of food that you can’t go wrong with. It’s fairly simple to prepare and hard to mess up, has great flavor, and contains moisture that turkey cannot compete with. Ham is also very versatile. It can be baked with a brown sugar glaze, you can smoke it, add a pineapple barbeque and so much more.
Mac and Cheese- 1st Place
Coming in the number one place for the best Thanksgiving food has to be mac and cheese. There is not much to say about this one besides the fact that it is simply amazing and is loved by all. It can be made in various ways but my personal favorite is the baked mac and cheese. The crusted cheese on top, the gooey inside of the dish, and the best cheese pull imaginable. This dish may be a side dish, but it definitely takes the cake.
