Fall is in the air, the leaves change color, and the air is crisp. With fall, comes the yearly debate among people: apples or pumpkins? Join as I dive into this mouthwatering journey and determine which fall flavor, I feel takes the crown as fall’s best pie flavor. By exploring aspects of each pie such as taste, texture, traditions, and popularity between these two flavors.
Both pies have very unique flavors to them. Starting with Apple pie, it has a delectable sweet and tart apple filling. Warm spices complement this pie such as cinnamon and nutmeg. Pumpkin pie however has a completely different flavor. Pumpkin pie has a creamy texture, as it contains pumpkin puree, spices, and a sweet taste. This pie offers a warm feeling with each bite.
Pumpkin pie is a very popular thanksgiving dish within families, as it is a symbol for autumn. As well as harvest season, pumpkin pie is a beloved tradition that warms the hearts of many. Apple pie is very well associated with thanksgiving; however, apple pie is more associated with family gatherings as a whole, and a comforting feeling, and aroma that fills the kitchen during the fall season.
“I like pumpkin pie more, you only eat it one time a year, it feels more special to me,” sophomore Robert Spencer stated.
Apple pie is often enjoyed standing alone, but Apple pie is able to shine through with its outstanding ability to be paired with a scoop of ice cream, or whipped cream. Apple pie is often used with other variations such as “caramel apple pie” or by simply adding delicious streusel topping. Warm this up, and you have yourself a perfect, cozy apple pie. Pumpkin pie is enjoyed by itself as well, but it is commonly paired with a dollop of whipped cream for a perfect bite. Pumpkin pie can be enjoyed in various ways, enhanced with a generous amount of savory maple syrup, add a sprinkle of toasted pecans if preferred, and you have yourself a wonderful pie.
“I prefer apple pie, it tastes better in my opinion,” sophomore Leila Watson exclaimed.
In this battle of apple versus pumpkin pie, each person has their own opinion on which pie is better to them, there is no definitive winner. It ultimately comes down to personal preference and the cherished memories and taste that each person has. After trying both of these pies, I believe that pumpkin pie is my favorite. The creaminess of it, and the warm feeling, and memories it brings to me. This fall, savor a slice of both pies, whether you are team pumpkin or team apple pie, these pies both bring joy, warmth, and a delicious taste of the season to your table.
