Veterans day is a very important and special holiday in the United States and it honors people who have served in the military. Veterans day is a day to express gratitude for these people and recognize their contribution to our country’s freedom. On November 10th, Chesterton Middle School honored these veterans as their 56th annual event, this year was a very special year for Chesterton Middle School because this year concluded CMS’s veterans’ day program due to the Duneland YMCA transforming Chesterton Middle School into a health and wellness center.
This program was hosted in the Goldsborough gym and was hosted from 1:30-2:15 pm. CMS students and Staff honored these veterans with this celebration, the choir, band, and orchestra played music honoring the veterans. Many former music department members remember their time and role during the program when they were in middle school.
“The Veteran’s Day ceremony was such a great tradition at the middle school,” CHS English teacher and former CMS choir member Jacob Lukach said. “I remember all the students being brought together to commemorate those that had stood strong for our country. I sang the ‘God Bless America’ solo, and just remember the emotion on the veterans’ faces as I sang those words. It was so powerful to me, even as a young eighth grader.”
CMS also celebrates veterans by having guest speakers at their program, they also had a family-style chicken dinner for the school. The school has a slideshow presentation in the gym with loved ones who served in the military and honors them. Chesterton Middle School honors veterans’ day, and this program will always be very special to everyone.
