The annual Hatta girl event is a celebration of women, and the many hats that they wear. This year, CHS students attended this event and celebrated. This event was hosted at the Sand Creek Country club. This event honors women and it is a chance to acknowledge women that are involved in a number of things. The event took place on November 8. The hats that the women wore to this represented the many roles that women play, such as being a mother, wife, daughter, educator, and many more. The women chose hats as symbolism, as the hats represent the roles played by women. The amount of hats they wore represented the many roles that women have.
Students who attend this event are usually chosen by their involvement with CHS. They choose girls who have diverse involvement at CHS, and the majority of them balance a number of roles.
“We try to get a cross section of kids who are involved. Anything from Show choir, athletes, IB students, we try to get a variety of female students who have emerged as leaders in those different areas,” CHS Associate Principal Kristen Peterson explains.
The CHS students who attended this event were Sylvia Coslov, Zoe Trakas, Abby Redman, Ashley Lemon, Hilary Reibly, and Carmen Pappas. CHS social studies teacher Christine Bullock, and CHS Associate Principal Kristen Peterson were both a part of this event. The Hatta Girl event is a tea luncheon, and the Duneland Chamber of Commerce invited high achieving women to speak at it. The Hatta Girl event proudly represents women and the roles they have.
“As a young woman about to go to college this experience was incredible. It was amazing to see all of the women share their experiences. Everyone was so amazing, and overall it was such an uplifting experience to attend,” senior Abby Redman stated.
