Justin Sims has been a household name in Chesterton since his sophomore year. Between his defensive presence and emphatic slams, Sims’ style is exciting, to say the least. Not only does his game draw attention from fans, but also college scouts. That said, Sims has now committed to Marian University to continue playing basketball!
Finding the right fit for college is not always an easy task, especially for athletes. There are many variables that have to be considered. Sims detailed what made Marian stand out to him, and why he thinks it’s the perfect fit.
“It’s the best option for me personally, it’s next to everything, and it’s in downtown Indy”
Even after committing, athletes are still adamant about improving as much as they can before they take that next step. Many have goals that they want to achieve before they conclude their high school career. For Sims, it’s pretty cut and dry.
“I want to win,” he said, “I want to win as much as we can this season.”
Sims has certainly proven that he wants to win. Despite their 9-6 record, he’s been hooping. This season, he has expanded his game to the three-point arc, giving him yet another way to run up the score. If his shot is off, he can still bury defenders in the paint with his 6’7” frame.
Even though he is focused on winning at Chesterton, Sims is also hyped for college basketball.
“I’m just excited to play,” he said, “Not a lot of people get this opportunity and I’m excited to make the most of it.”
If he can play at the level that he has in his past 2 seasons, Sims could earn himself a key role on Marian’s team. They are losing 6’10” senior, Nolan Foster, next season, which could lead Sims to find a spot in the rotation. Marian will be in need of a defensive center that can pull down boards and score the ball in the paint, which is where Sims excels.
If you see Justin around, make sure to congratulate him on this amazing step in his athletic career, Congrats Justin!
