The Department of Exceptional Learning, a service dedicated to supporting students with IEPs, will be hosting a second Parent Ambassador meeting for the exceptional learner’s parents. The meeting will be held on January 25 from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at the Duneland School Corporation Administration Center located at 601 W. Morgan Avenue.
The first meeting, held in October, reviewed the special education program. This meeting will evaluate the newly developed strategic plan that has to do with Exceptional Learning. In addition, attendees will listen to a presentation about the Transition Fair in April, discuss staff training and other initiatives, and look at the Duneland Special Education December 1 demographics.
The meeting provides relevant information for families. It may be beneficial to present feedback or feel more connected to the corporation. In addition, the last meeting related to a district-wide audit, whereas, the upcoming meeting will focus more on corporation statistics. Also, policies, opportunities, and programs will be communicated throughout the meeting.
The meetings are one step towards enhancing communication with families, and are widely growing. The special education teaching staff are an important part of the Duneland Schools and are no longer in a partnership with Porter County Education Services. Now, there are 42 special education teachers and 1,000 students. Jen Bognar was named Director of Exceptional Learning and has the experience and special education knowledge.
