The Chesterton Drifters and Sandpipers traveled to Ft. Atkinson, IN to compete in their second season competition under the name of the Ft. Atkinson Showcase. It was a great day for the Chesterton Show Choirs as both groups received another Grand Champion title under their belt. All of the hard work and dedication that each and every member has put into their respective shows has shown through with their continuous success. The Chesterton Show Choirs are two for two so far this season and we hope to see them continue to strive for excellence.
The day began with the Chesterton Drifters performing their Barbie-themed show entitled “Girls!”. The show features many popular songs such as California Gurls, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, Just Dance, and more. Later on in the afternoon, the Chesterton Sandpipers performed their elementary school spelling bee-themed show under the title “Sandpiper County Spelling Bee”. This show also features popular songs such as Glamorous, Love, Respect, and more. Once all of the performances were completed, the preliminary awards began. The Chesterton Drifters were announced as the Grand Champions of the Unisex Division and also announced as the overall winner and highest-scoring group of the Prep Division. Shortly after, the Chesterton Sandpipers were announced as one of the six groups moving on to finals to perform their show a second time to be scored and finally placed.
“I never expected us to win the entire prep division, especially against groups with tenor/bass voices, but when we did it was the best feeling,” said senior Drifter and alto section leader Kristen Cartergine.
Before finals performances began, Luke Housman got the chance to perform his Solo Competition piece as he was the winner of the Solo Competition for the day. During finals, the Drifters had the chance to perform first as an exhibition for being the overall highest-scoring group in the Prep and Unisex division. The Sandpipers also performed their show for a second time as the last group in the final performances. Once the final performances were over, the final awards began. The Chesterton Sandpipers were announced as the Grand Champions of the mixed division, earning the caption award for Best Choreography.
“The feeling we all felt after both groups won in their divisions was indescribable and I loved every moment of it,” said senior Sandpiper Alivia Pulsoni.
With the Chesterton Show Choir achieving a clean sweep at the Ft. Atkinson Showcase, they had an amazing weekend. Good luck this season and great job at Ft. Atkinson Showcase!
