The 2024 Oscars did not disappoint but didn’t surprise viewers either. The annual award ceremony that awards the most brilliant and talented actors, writers, directors, and many more, hit its 94th anniversary this past Sunday. Congratulations to all of the award winners as well as the nominees!
As everyone in the entertainment industry knows, Oppenheimer has been dominating this award season, with five wins at the Golden Globes, and the Oscars were no different. The successful film received a grand total of seven Oscars along with being nominated thirteen times. The film won “Actor In A Leading Role,” awarded to Cillian Murphy, who has also been on a roll this award season as well. The “Best Actor In A Supporting Role,” was awarded to Robert Downy Jr., as he finally broke through, winning his first Oscar. The award for “Cinematography,” was awarded to Hoyte van Hoytema, while the “Directing,” prize went to Christopher Nolan. Rounding out the Oscar wins for Oppenheimer were the awards for “Film Editing” (Jennifer Lame), “Music (Original Score)” (Ludwig Göransson) and finally, the cream of the crop award: “Best Picture.”
Along with the success of Oppenheimer at the Oscars, Poor Things was credited heavily during the ceremony. The film won a total of four Academy Awards and was nominated eleven times. Those awards include “Actress in a Leading Role”, awarded to Emma Stone. Stone has also had great success during the award season thus far and even won a Golden Globe for her acting in Poor Things. The prize for “Costume Design” was awarded to Holly Waddington, while awards for “Makeup and Hairstyling” and “Production Design” were also given to the film as well.
It is not a surprise that both Oppenheimer and Poor Things won multiple Academy Awards this season, due to the success of both films at the box office. Nonetheless, both cinematic hits deserved to be awarded for the incredible experience audiences were able to watch on screen. A delightful surprise for actress, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, for winning the award for the category “Actress in a Supporting Role” for her work in The Holdovers. This is Randolph’s first Oscar win and fans could not be more excited for the young actress for what will come next in her career.
Along with Oppenheimer winning Best Original Score, the winner for “Music (Original Song) was awarded to Billie Elish and Finneas O’Connell for their hit song “What Was I Made For?” that was showcased in Barbie. Elish has successfully won two Academy Awards and is now the youngest person to have won two. Along with the win, the star got to perform the winning song on stage, one of the highlights of the ceremony.
Along with Billie Elish’s performance, Ryan Gosling also had a special surprise for Barbie fans as well. Gosling performed the hit song “I’m Just Ken” sporting a pink suit with matching pink gloves. The performance was electric and had the attendees dancing and singing along with the lyrics. Gosling interacted with the audience and even went to his Barbie co-stars to have them sing along with him. Gosling’s performance was amazing and swept up everyone’s attention that night.
In conclusion, The Oscars 2024 ceremony was not by any means super surprising, but was very satisfying nonetheless. Many actors were awarded their first Oscar and were shown the credit and attention that they deserved. Congratulations to all of the winners as well as the nominees, now viewers can’t wait to see what surprises there will be in the years that follow.
