The Chesterton Girls Lacrosse season has officially commenced! The team has worked very hard during preseason from January to March. The varsity season began on March 13 with a doubleheader. They first played South Bend High School. Their season opener went differently than the team had wanted, losing 7-4. Following the loss against South Bend, the team faced another challenge when playing Penn High School. Penn is notoriously good when it comes to Lacrosse, however, the Trojans still put up a good fight. The overall score for their game was 12-2. Though their first games did not go as planned, the team stays optimistic that they will improve throughout the season.
“They weren’t our best games but it’s only the beginning and I’m excited to see how we improved,” said senior Captain Libby Cunningham.
On Saturday, March 16, the team played another doubleheader. The games took place down in Indianapolis. After their unfortunate opener, the team was determined to pull out some wins and redeem themselves. They were successful in this feat, as they defeated Warren Central and Lawrence Central, scoring 8-4 in both games!
“We definitely worked more as a team for these games and it clearly paid off,” said senior Megan Wilcox.
The following day, the team played against Brownsburg High School. While they put up a good fight, the game didn’t bend their way suffering a loss 7-4.
Their first home game was March 19, against Northridge. The game was tough as Northridge was playing very strong, and is one of the better teams around. Ultimately, the team took a loss 9-2.
Though the first few sets of games have not all been super successful, there are many more to come and the team will only get better!
