Over the past school year, the Red Cross club has worked extremely hard to help out in any way they could. On April 4, 2024 The Red Cross Club collected 90 units of blood. Additionally, they had a fundraiser, a dodgeball tournament, where they raised $175 on February 12. Regardless of their efforts here, collecting blood is important worldwide because it can save many lives.
“It saves so many lives, and so many hospitals need blood and each pint of blood that we collect saves three lives,” said Ashley Lemon, President of the Red Cross Club.
By reaching out to students, and encouraging them to participate the club was able to eclipse their goal. The drive ended up generating 90 pints of blood, which will help to save lives around the globe. The club’s dedication and passion towards helping others was the driving force in their achievement of this goal. Recently, the Indiana Red Cross had their Red Cross Awards ceremony, where our Chesterton High School Red Cross Club won two awards: Most Creative Fundraiser and Most Units at a Single Blood Drive.
“I think we worked together really well during our lunches to go around and collect volunteers, and write their names down and put them in the system, and most of the people came out, so we did a pretty good job overall working together,” says member of the Red Cross Club Devin Throw.
The Red Cross Club has shown dedication and pushed people to donate blood to help others. Also, they have shown that there’s strength in numbers with the amount of people willing to support the club. Please consider supporting our Red Cross Club again next school year, and look for information about their upcoming events.
