Summer is almost here and many students at CHS are bored and are looking for things to do. A great recommendation would be to check out the Indiana Dunes National Park. With an estimated 2.77 million visitors in 2023, the national park offers pristine beaches, hiking trails, and camping. All these great activities are so close to home. However, for some families, the fifteen to twenty dollar admission fee is prohibitively expensive. Fortunately, there are some upcoming free days. Now, for a limited time, plenty of great summer activities can now be accessed for no cost. It’s a great chance to experience the outstanding natural beauty and incredible biodiversity at the Indiana Dunes National Park. Here are some of the great things you could do for free at the national park: hike Cowles Bog, swim in Lake Michigan, have a picnic on the, explore the Heron Rookery, or watch the sunset over Lake Michigan. It would be a shame to miss out on all this great summer recreation. Entrance fees have been waived on the dates listed below:
- June 19
- August 4
- September 28
A twenty five dollar fee is still required for camping at all the campgrounds in the national park on free days. The Indiana Dunes State Park is also accessible on the above listed dates for free. The three dunes challenge could be completed for free as well. This is a great opportunity to experience some fun no cost summer recreation.
