Students showed their Trojan spirit for Chesterton High School’s Homecoming Week! The homecoming spirit week began on September 23, 2024. Kicking off Chesterton’s 2024 homecoming spirit week started on Monday, when students were encouraged to dress up as Adam Sandler! This included outfits with baggy shorts, t-shirts, and hoodies. On Tuesday, students dressed for the theme Country versus Country Club. Students dressed in country outfits, which included cowboy hats, boots, plaid, and jeans. Or they wore country club outfits, which included khakis, polos, tennis skirts, and collared skirts.
Wednesday’s theme was to wear pink, so students dressed up in their favorite pink outfit! Thursday’s theme was Anything but a Backpack, in which students carried their supplies in anything but a backpack! However, students had to respect the rules and could not bring in anything alive or anything that is larger than an overhead airplane compartment. Students were very creative and brought in unique items. Some students brought laundry baskets, wheelbarrows, and strollers. The most surprising item brought in was a microwave! Lastly, Friday will be class colors. Freshmen wear white, sophomores will be wearing gold, juniors wear maroon, and seniors wear black.
On Friday, September 27, the annual CHS pep session will be held at the end of the day. An abbreviated class schedule will be provided for students. For more information on the class schedule, go to 2024 Pep Session Bell Schedule – Google Docs. The homecoming parade will take place at 5 pm on September 27, 2024. The parade will take off from the South lot, and it will travel east on Porter Avenue to S Calumet Road, Calumet Ave to Broadway, Broadway to S 6th Street, and will go to the former CMS campus. After the parade, CHS will have its homecoming football game, which will take place at Chesterton High School, against Portage.
“There are not only school but also community stakeholders who are going to be participating in the parade, we had almost 60 entrees… we are really excited for the community to come out, and it should be a lot of fun,” CHS Assistant Principal Tenbarge states.
The game will begin at 7:30 pm. Homecoming royalty will be crowned at halftime! Students can vote for homecoming royalty during homecoming spirit week. The Homecoming Dance will take place on Saturday, September 28, 2024. Students can purchase tickets for the dance for $10, with a small service fee. Tickets are online only, no cash will be accepted. Ticket sales end at the end of the day on Thursday. The dance will take place from 7 pm to 10 pm. This year’s theme is Homecoming in Hollywood, be prepared for an exciting night!
