Halloween has been celebrated and loved for centuries. While there is plenty to enjoy about the holiday, one of the most beloved parts of Halloween is trick or treating. Students still love dressing up and going door to door to get different candies. This brings up the age old question: which candy do students prefer?
To determine our winner, we separated candy into two categories. The two categories decided upon were chocolate and gummy. Because the flavors of the two types are so different, the voting needed to be separate for each. After surveying a handful of CHS students, the top five chocolates and gummies have been chosen.
According to CHS students, the top five favorite chocolates are:
- Twix
- Kit Kat
- 3 Musketeers
- Milky Way
- Hershey’s
From that list, it seems that students prefer chocolate that has something included. Whether it’s caramel, shortbread, a wafer, or whipped nougat, each chocolate “combo” is preferred over just plain chocolate. However, when looking at #5 on the list, plain chocolate is clearly still loved. But having more elements adds new flavors that make people love it more.
Gummies are different though, because there are many different flavors and styles. At CHS, the students said the top five gummies are:
- Sour Patch Kids
- Gummy Bears
- Sour Gummy Worms
- Nerd Clusters
- Candy Corn
From this we gathered that many students enjoy the same flavors in their gummy candy, considering that gummy bears and sour gummy worms are very alike. To students, it is their taste, or their sourness, that separates the two. Additionally, the survey revealed that some students prefer certain brands of candies over others because they have different tastes.
Now CHS’s top five chocolates and top five gummy candies have been revealed. A special thanks goes out to the CHS students who participated in the survey. Now the adults all know what candy to buy and pass out on Halloween.
