Homecoming Week at Chesterton High School is an exciting time of the year, filled with school spirit, many fun events, and unforgettable memories. On Friday, September 27, the excitement was raised for students. At the end of the school day, the CHS pep rally began. The rally featured performances from the cheer team, and the dance team to begin the exciting events. All grade levels competed in a series of games to see which two grades would compete one-on-one in the CHS annual dodgeball game against the staff. Students cheered for their classmates, and in the end, the senior and the junior teams had to go against each other in the dodgeball game. It was an intense game, and everyone who participated gave it their best effort. The juniors won the dodgeball game in the last few seconds of the game, and everyone was excited to begin their homecoming weekend!
The annual Chesterton High School Homecoming Parade was also a huge success this year. The parade brought the community together and showed off CHS school spirit. Many people from Chesterton came out to watch the parade, and everyone was excited to celebrate! The parade featured many different clubs and organizations from Duneland schools, each group had their own unique signs and ideas for their part in the parade. The CHS homecoming parade had more than 60 groups/organizations that participated, as well as over 70 floats that participated in the parade. There was a lot of effort, along with creativity put into their displays for the community. From the CHS Girls soccer team with the theme “USA”, to the CHS swim team’s “Despicable Me” theme, and many more creative ideas, the 2024 parade was very successful! The organizations and clubs that participated worked very hard and were excited to participate. The CHS cheerleaders spent a lot of time preparing for the parade.
“My team and I practiced really hard every Tuesday and Thursday for about a week…getting to meet the middle school cheer team was memorable because they looked up to us, and they were all super sweet…it is super fun to see your classmates waving and smiling and getting candy,” Chesterton junior cheerleader Gionna Pinkston stated.
Overall, homecoming week is an exciting time of year for Chesterton High School and the community, and this year did not disappoint!
