Every year the homecoming dance is hosted to wish the football team good luck in the upcoming season. This year it was hosted on Saturday, September 28. It started at 7 pm and ended at 10 pm. This year’s dance was Hollywood-themed, serving as an interesting focus for all of the decorations.
The tradition of homecoming started in the early 1900s to motivate college sports teams and promote school pride. The school football team is always the main point of the celebration. There are often dances, parades, and other festivities to kick off the season. These things have not changed since the tradition started. Something that has changed is that high schools are now taking part in this.
The NHS members spent their Saturday setting up this event. They were the ones who decided on the theme. Thanks to them, the dance atmosphere was just right. Without NHS, the dance wouldn’t have been possible.
“We sort of divided into groups and set up different stations, we had people setting up the main cafeteria with balloons and streamers, we had people setting up the photo wall with fake celebrities and the gold and the whole red carpet and then we had a group of people setting up the balloon arch and the Hollywood sign,” said Lilly Boyter.
The days leading up to the dance were filled with preparation, anticipation, and excitement. The week of homecoming was filled with fun activities such as spirit week, pep rally, parade, and of course, the football game. These festivities before the dance only helped build the suspense.
““I was actually really excited, both of the weeks leading up to the dance were both kinda nerve-racking,” said junior Isabella Martin. This night was certainly one to remember. For many freshmen, this was their first time going to this type of dance.
When asked what advice she would give to someone who has never been to a homecoming dance, Martin said, “Go out and dance! Have fun, dance like nobody’s watching because nobody’s gonna remember that.”
The Homecoming tradition is always a staple of the school year. It not only kicks off the football season, but it motivates students for the school year ahead. Homecoming is an important and fun-filled part of history that we will continue to celebrate for years to come. Thanks to the help of staff members and students alike, this dance was certainly one to remember.
