Before CHS: I came from Portage High school and was their building trades teacher for ten years. Prior to that I was a Project management for different construction companies for 20 plus years.

Josh Van Nevel
Before CHS: Last year I taught physics in Evansville, Indiana. The year before that I was in Sedona, Arizona teaching Algebra, financial math, and computer coding. Before that I taught in Prescott Valley, Arizona teaching 8th grade science.
Education: I got my undergraduate degree from IU Bloomington, I majored in Biology and minored in Chemistry, Psychology, and Environmental science. I got my master’s degree from Prescott College.

Advice for Students: Don’t give up when things get hard. Productive struggle is where you learn to grow, so put your best foot forward.

Before CHS: I was working as an RBT. (Registered Behavioral Technician doing behavior therapy with children diagnosed with autism) also was waitressing at different restaurants in Chesterton and Valparaiso.
Education: I went to college at PNW in Westville and got my Bachelors of Science in Psychology.

Favorite Sports Team: I don’t specifically have a favorite, if I had to pick, I would say the Chicago Cubs.

Before CHS: Before this year at CHS I was at Bailly Elementary School as a resource teacher.
Education: I graduated from Valparaiso University with a degree in Elementary and Special Education.
Favorite Movie: My favorite movie at the moment is Instant Family.
Favorite Sports Team: do not watch a lot of sports but all of my brothers have played football in Chesterton, so I would say the Trojans are my favorite sports team.
Advice for Students: My advice to students would be to not get so discouraged by your mistakes that you forget to learn from them or try again.
Position at CHS: I am an exceptional learning teacher in the applied skills classroom.
