On Wednesday, November 6th, CHS students participated in the annual ‘Hatta Girl Women’s Tea Luncheon Event.’ There are tables for the women to sit, and every person is provided with a tea bag, and dessert. After the lunch, speakers begin to share their experiences with the other women. This event took place at Sand Creek Country Club and featured female speakers who were able to speak to other women at this event, and shared their experiences. Women who attend this event wear hats of many shapes and sizes as symbolism to represent the various roles that women play in the world. A few CHS seniors were selected to participate in this inspiring event. These students include Marlee Wilson, Kelly Swickard, Lily Boyter, Jane Maddex, Claire Demeter, Kylia Peterson, and Anisa Faroh.
This year Chesterton High School Associate Principal Kristen Peterson had a different role than she has in the past: a featured speaker at the event.
“I look forward to the Hatta Girl every year because I feel like it is a great opportunity for our young leaders to interact and hear from some more experienced leaders within our community…speaking was something I thought about over the years listening to the other remarkable speakers…the primary message I was trying to get across was that we don’t always have to have all the answers to everything and have everything planned in our life, it is okay to wear different hats, and try to figure out what fits best,” [Kristen] Peterson said.
The Hatta Girl event is an experience where women can get an opportunity to connect and learn from each other.
“It was really inspiring…I learned a lot about perseverance and never giving up and that is something that I really needed to be reminded of,” senior Marlee Wilson commented.
