CHS has been blown away once again with its production of the musical Bring It On. On November 21-23, the students presented Chesterton with another outstanding performance in the CHS auditorium.
This musical follows the main character, Campbell as she starts off the school year strong, becoming the head of the cheerleading squad. This has been her lifelong dream and everything is going well for her until she is notified that she will be redistricted to a different school. Her new school is filled with scary, unfamiliar faces and worst of all, no cheer squad. As Campbell navigates through this intimidating change in her life, she makes new friends, new enemies, and has new experiences that ultimately shape her as a person.
This phenomenal show could not have been possible without the hard work and determination of the entire cast.
“We did rehearsals from the beginning of October to November and I think it was a little bit over 20 rehearsals. There was a lot of work put into it. We had a choreographer come in, we had separate vocal rehearsals and separate blocking rehearsals,” said Ava Cunningham, the lead actress. “I’ve been wanting to play Campbell since I was in about 7th grade, and so once I heard that they were doing Bring it On, and I’ve been doing musicals at the high school for three years now, so once I heard they were doing Bring It On I decided to audition for Campbell.”
Every person, whether their role was big or small, put an amazing amount of effort into making this happen.
“Everyone contributes, even if you are not the main character. Without all of the side characters it wouldn’t be the same,” Valeria Chavez, a member of the ensemble said, “just being a part of such an amazing group of people is just so nice.”
According to the performers, being a part of the school musical is an amazing experience that you can learn a lot from.
“Bring It On was really special because it was a show that took a lot of us out of our comfort zones because there was a lot of cheerleading and there might have only been two people who were cheerleaders in the past. Also, the cast was really special because we all ended up bonding so much and getting really close so we made a lot of special memories” said Cunningham.
When asked what advice she would give to someone thinking about joining something like this, Chavez said, “It’s very time-consuming, if they have the time to I would honestly recommend it, it is so much fun.”
When asked the same question, Cunningham answered, “I would tell them to go for it because it was one of the best decisions that I’ve personally made and I think that it has helped me learn so much and make so many great friends so I think if anyone is ever considering it they should definitely just go for it.”
This performance of “Bring It On” did not fail to impress. The amount of hard work put into it by the students paid off and made for another phenomenal show.
