On Thursday night, the Chesterton girls golf team hosted LaPorte and Valparaiso at Sand Creek Country Club.  The evening also serving as senior night, began with Coach Gentry and Coach Nallenweg honoring seniors Addison Gentry, Peyton Martinson, Zoe Swanson, and Bethany House.  “It has been heartwarming.  With the seniors being such kind, caring, respectful, and hard-working student athletes, it has restored my confidence in the future of our community.  They have set a positive example for the younger teammates to follow,” said Coach Gentry about the seniors.  Each girl received a flower bouquet presented by Chesterton High School’s Assistant Athletic Director, Mr. Berry.  Senior Zoe Swanson warmly shared, “I have loved golfing with this team, they are so supportive and positive, and we are always there for each other.  I started my freshman year as just a fun activity, and it turned out to be one of the most fun things that I have ever done.”

Playing in record heat, our Trojan varsity finished with a 196, beating LaPorte (198), and falling to Valparaiso (196) with a tiebreaker of the fifth varsity score.   Peyton Martinson led the Trojans with a 45, Addison Gentry and Katelyn McCoy both carded a 48, followed by Zoe Swanson (55) and Bethany House (56).

The junior varsity girls finished with a 228, beating Valparaiso (230), but losing to LaPorte (200).  Miranda Miller (52) led the team followed by Paige House (54), Lizzy Gray (60), Mollie Haughtington (62), and Alize Lawrence (63).

Afterwards, the girls enjoyed a safe, socially-distanced milkshake at Sand Creek while they presented the seniors with gifts.
