Chesterton High Schools’ German Club is kicking off the school year with Oktoberfest!

Oktoberfest is an annual festival traditionally held in Munich, Germany over the span of two weeks stretching from late September to early October. Oktoberfest began as a wedding ceremony, honoring the marriage between Crown Prince Ludwig I and Princess Therese Von Sachsen-Hildburghausen on October 12, 1810. The occasion was celebrated with days of feasting and horse racing.

There is no expense for the first German Club meeting, but if participants wish to continue attending future gatherings, it is asked that each student brings $5 to help cover costs. Oktoberfest will be held in the grass outside the doors by the German rooms (Knauff- C174, Martinson-  C174). The festivities will last from 3:00 to 4:00 pm. Oktoberfest will feature Herr Knauff’s famous bratwurst, authentic food, traditional Oktoberfest songs, outdoor games, and Apfelschorle- a drink consisting of apple juice and sparkling water. Posters are located around the school for additional information. Everyone is welcome to join!
