Nicki Minaj made headlines on September 13th, when she posted a tweet about an unidentified cousin’s friend, who lives in Trinidad, whose fiance called off their wedding because the COVID-19 vaccine had “made his testicles swollen.” Trinidad’s health minister later debunked the aforementioned claim after further investigation. In the comments of the tweet, her fans mocked her, by saying things like “People react to painkillers too, but that doesn’t mean people should stop taking painkillers,” and “your cousin’s friend picked up an STD but alright Nicki”.

Later that same day, Minaj tweeted, “They want you to get vaccinated for the Met. if I get vaccinated it won’t for the Met. It’ll be once I feel I’ve done enough research. I’m working on that now. In the meantime my loves, be safe. Wear the mask with 2 strings that grips your head & face. Not that loose one”. Minaj says another reason she didn’t want to go to the Met was because she didn’t have a nanny for her young son, who can’t stay home by himself.  In the comments of that tweet, people were telling her that the vaccine is safe and has been studied by scientists. The comments also mocked her, poking fun at the fact a “rapper is trying to do scientists work” and saying “Nicki should listen to the professionals that’ve done research the past 2 years.”  Minaj did tweet again on the 13th of September, saying that she will eventually get vaccinated to be able to go on tour because she will feel “safer” doing so. She also recommended that others should get the vaccine in order to work because “a lot of countries won’t let people work w/o the vaccine.”
