On Saturday, September 25, the Chesterton girls golf team drove down to Lafayette, Indiana, for what would be their final match at Battleground Golf Club.  Battleground was again the host of the IHSAA Regional Championship, where the team would compete. On Friday, the girls played a practice round in order to familiarize themselves with the course.

Senior Paige House said, “The practice round did help a lot.  Not only was it so much fun to cart a round with my friends, but it helped me decide what clubs I should use on the holes, especially the par three’s where distance is key.”

The Lady Trojans finished with a total score of 386, finishing 12th out of 18 teams.  Senior Katelyn McCoy led the Lady Trojans with a score of 86.  Following McCoy, House carded a 96 and was closely followed by junior Lizzy Gray, who came in with a 97.  After Gray, was senior Miranda Miller (107) and sophomore Peighton Metcalf (115).

The top three teams that are continuing on the path to the State Competition are Culver Academy who finished with a 328, Western High School who finished with a 356, and Crown Point High School who finished with a 363.  The top five individuals that will be advancing in the State Competition without their team are Tipton High School’s Lucy Quigley (74), Kankakee Valley High School’s Brynlee Deboard (76), Northwestern High School’s Audrey Koetter (78), New Prairie High School’s Jaiden Winters (84), and Michigan City High School’s Taylor Skibinski (84).

“It was bittersweet because it was my last match and I am going to miss making memories on the course,” says House about the end of her senior season.
