The Chesterton Girls Varsity Basketball team has been preparing for their season since last year’s season closed. They have been working on improving their skills and maintaining relationships with their fellow teammates.

“I’m excited to rebuild the team since we lost a lot of seniors. I’m honestly ready to work with each of my teammates, especially the ones I’ve been working with for a while now. Since this is my last year I really just want to enjoy it. I really don’t have any personal goals, I just want to have a great season,” senior Carley Balas expressed.

The team practices 6 days a week. Monday- Friday from 3:15-5:30 and Saturday mornings. Each athlete has their own personal goals this season and is hoping to achieve them through practice.

“It is a personal goal of mine to get more assists and really just get better at passing in general. I know I can shoot but I have other areas to work on. The team this year is basically our middle school back together after so long. A bunch of our seniors have worked really hard to get here and I know it’s just going to be a really fun season,” added senior Mannat Singh.

The girls began their season three weeks ago. Since then they have played one game on October 30th and a second game on November 6th. The Trojans initially defeated Westville 40-37 and then fell to Highland 43-30.

“We’ve been working since around August during the preseason to prepare.  A lot of us girls are wanting to make the absolute best out of this year. The (regular) season started about three weeks ago, and I can’t wait to see what this team can do. Everyone has been working together for a while and I think we have a good chance of being a really cohesive team,” added junior Kristina Kokot.

The Lady Trojans are confident in their abilities this season and are excited to face a challenge. The season just began for the Girls Basketball team and they are working hard for the many games to come. The Sandscript is excited to follow along with the performance of the team as well as support the girls from now to the end of their postseason.
