Top 10 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade Float

Audrey White, Sandscript Author

This year, New York City hosted its 95th anniversary of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade!

This parade is the world’s biggest and is produced by the U.S. based department chain, Macy’s.

Listed below are my personal top 10 Macy’s Day floats:

10.) SpongeBob SquarePants & Gary

Childhood favorite characters, SpongeBob SquarePants and his snail Gary, looked down at the citizens gathered at the parade!

9.) Ronald McDonald

This notable clown representing the worldwide fast food chain, McDonald’s, casually drifted above the street, the classic red color illuminated.

8.) Sonic the Hedgehog

This popular blue video game character with incredible speed zipped through the parade!

7.) Papa Smurf

Papa Smurf is a character from the Belgian comic-turned television show and movie franchise, the Smurfs. Papa Smurf waved to the public from up high this year! This creature from comics reminds me of the Smurf film franchise.

6.) Tom Turkey

This leading float is the oldest and most famous of the annual parade. Tom Turkey is an animatronic and is seated around people dressed as pilgrims. Every year, Tom Turkey glides through the streets as people cheer!  No Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade float list would be complete without the star- Tom Turkey!

5.) Mount Rushmore

The famous U.S. landmark Mount Rushmore made its way through the streets of New York City this year, staring stoically at the celebrating citizens. The detail of this float is definitely worth taking note of. The structure takes the appearance of stone and is a small-scale adaptation of the well-known monument.

4.) Smokey Bear

This famous advertising icon, known for educating others about the dangers of forest fires, made an appearance at the parade on Thanksgiving. With the pressing matters of nature preservation and green spaces, Smokey Bear seemed a perfect fit for the list.

3.) Green Giant

You know him, you love him- the Hulk of your dinner table: the Green Giant! The Green Giant float received much questionable attention on social media regarding his build and style. Nonetheless, this float was well crafted and added to the jubilance of the parade. This well-crafted structure is incredible!

2.) Pillsbury Doughboy

A loveable icon representing Pillsbury Company was seen floating about the parade this year! Usually appearing in commercials, the Pillsbury Doughboy made a comeback in the parade after being temporarily retired. This silly baker never fails to put a smile on my face!

1.) Grogu “Baby Yoda”

Number one on the list is Grogu! A new addition to this year’s parade was this beloved character better known as Baby Yoda from Disney’s Mandalorian series. Grogu was the first Star Wars balloon to have been in the Macy’s Day Parade. As a big fan of “Baby Yoda”, it was exciting to see this friendly face!
