Hey Erin,

I want to ask my crush out for Valentine’s Day, but I don’t know how! What if she rejects me, or worse? Help!!

Sincerely,

A Lovesick Student

Hello Lovesick!

With Valentine’s Day coming up, a lot of people will be planning on how to ask their crush out, as well as thinking about gift and date ideas for their current lover. If you’re stuck with no ideas, then look no further, because Erin has your back!

For some people, they could feel satisfied with the simple question: “Do you want to go out sometime?”  Whether it be in person or maybe over a text, this is one step you can take. But for others, it may take something more, as some seek flowers, a letter, or a gift. If you know the person you’re asking out well enough, choose a gift you think would represent them well and that they would like and give it to them; then ask them out on a date or to be your significant other! If you don’t know the person that well, I would recommend you start with a regular conversation and maybe the giving of a small object, such as a rose. As you guys get more comfortable, ask them to go on a date with you. If the person does reject you, it can be a bit of an embarrassing moment, but remember to brush it off and stand confident. Sometimes they come to you, and being single just means independence! Remember you are enough and don’t force something that wasn’t meant to be.

Now if your crush said yes to go on a date with you, score! But, where are you supposed to take them? I have the answer for you, as Chesterton is MY forte. You could always take them to a nice place in town to eat, like Octave Grill, Musashi, Third Coast, or Lucrezia’s! Or you could both go shopping at a few fun places, like Yesterday’s Treasures if you are into thrifting pieces, Chelles, or the Feed and Garden. If you would rather go to Valparaiso, then you could go to the ice skating rink, the Cinemark, or Barnes and Noble. There are plenty of options for food and entertainment near our town and inside of it!

Sincerely,

Erin
