The Chesterton Trojans pinned the Valparaiso Vikings

Last Wednesday night, the Chesterton High School wrestlers took to the mat for their senior night matchup versus rival Valparaiso.  It was an eventful night for the seniors, managers and wrestlers alike.  The managers, Maddie Ellis and Celia Maranto, were honored for their dedication to the team.  The wrestlers themselves, Luke Stento, Jude Mochen, and Gage DeMarco, were honored for their achievements on the mat over the last four seasons. Unfortunately, fans did not get to see Stento in action, as he is still recovering from a gruesome ankle injury during football season.  However, Mochen and DeMarco represented the 2022 class well against the Vikings.

The Trojans began their competition with Ryan Kasper who had a long and enduring match. After four matches, Chesterton had started out strong, and led Valparaiso 18 to 3. Later, the Trojans scored a big pin by Amilcar Lemus, in the 132 pound division.  Aiden Torres would follow suit, with another pin for Chesterton in his 145 class.  Two other Chesterton wrestlers, senior Gage DeMarco (195) and Connor Katsofaros (220) also recorded pins during the night, with Katsofaros’ really putting the match away for Chesterton.  In the end, with three forfeits from the Valparaiso side, the Trojans won the match 42 to 28.

After a decent showing this past weekend at the DAC Meet, the boys are confident and ready for the upcoming IHSAA State Tournament.  The sectional round of the state tournament kicks off on January 29, at LaPorte High School.
