Big Band Bash Recap

Earlier this month, Chesterton High School hosted its annual Big Band Bash. The cafeteria was darkened and elaborately decorated with string lights, tablecloths, and programs in every seat. Two spotlights shined on the risers, illuminating the jazz band players. During the first set, the jazz band played six songs. Those who attended were able to watch the players, dance, indulge in the appetizers, and purchase raffle tickets. The raffle items were sponsored by the jazz band sponsors. 

 

“The raffle tickets were basically for certificates or like gifts from some of our sponsors like Biggby Coffee, Serenity Spa, things like that,” explained tenor saxophone player, Rosalie Salentine.

 

As the evening progressed and the first set of songs ended, the jazz band enjoyed a ten minute break where attendees were able to take pleasure in the event’s commodities. Following the break, the jazz band reconvened and played through a set of five songs. 

 

“I thought it was a lot of fun. I was a bit nervous because it was my first time performing a big jazz concert. I had so much fun with all of my friends. It was really an exciting night. It was an overall great experience,” Alto saxophone, Olivia Vogel imparted
