Ideas to express love to those around you

Non-Romantic Valentines Day Activities

Audrey White, Sandscript Author

On the most romantic day of the year, it can also be a time of loneliness for those who do not have a significant other. However! Just because you may not be romantically involved, does not mean that you cannot express love for those who mean the most to you. Here are five ways that you can show those who are special to you, that you care for them:

1.)  Go out with friends

Good friends and good times! For Valentine’s Day, consider taking a trip downtown Chesterton for taking photos and making memories. There are plenty of eclectic shops and eateries to enjoy an afternoon with those close to you. Be sure to stay safe and have fun!

2.) Volunteer

What is a better way to spread love than to take time out of your day to help people in need? Take AseraCare Hospice into consideration; a faith-based hospice that helps seniors, veterans, military families located in Valparaiso. Or maybe you would like to spend some time with some fuzzy friends! If so, look into Best Buddies Pet Pantry Inc.- a Chesterton organization that aims to reduce the number of pets that are taken to animal shelters, as well as supporting families so that their pets are provided with cat litter, pet supplies, and treatments.

3.) Write notes to give to teachers, friends, family, or even strangers!

It’s a heart-warming feeling to read something kind someone has written to you, or even said. It’s an even better feeling when you give a letter of that nature to someone. For Valentine’s Day, it may be a sweet idea to write a letter telling a teacher, friend, or relative something that you admire and appreciate about them. Perhaps you can even write to someone you barely know, it could lead to a friendship! Whoever you write to, it’s guaranteed to put a smile on their face.

4.) Be your own valentine

Maybe this Valentine’s Day, you’d rather be your own valentine! Treat yourself to a sweet dessert, purchase an item you have been eye-balling for a while, and enjoy yourself. Take some time to “smell the roses” and delight in the day.

5.) Do something kind for someone else

Similar to writing kind notes for others, treat someone else to the things they love! The gift can be homemade or purchased, but the thoughtfulness behind it will definitely make your loved one’s day.

Whichever way you choose to spend Valentine’s Day, know that you are loved and that you are valued. The Sandscript wishes everyone a Happy Valentine’s Day!
