Chesterton Dance Team Steps to Success on National Stage

Team brings home second-place finish at NDA nationals.

The Chesterton Dance Team is having a fantastic season of competitions. The competition team flew to Orlando, Florida on March 2 to compete in the National Dance Alliance (NDA) National Championship. This is the largest high school dance competition in the United States and It attracts schools from all across the country. The dance team attended the competition for the first time this year.

In Orlando, the Chesterton Dance Team performed two routines. They competed in two divisions: Small Varsity Jazz and Medium Varsity Kick.

After the first day, the jazz team was in eighth place. This qualified them to compete in the finals on day two as a result. After day two was all said and done, the team finished in 13th place with a total score of 91.63.

The Kick team, which is comprised of dancers Suzanne Adent, Ellery Brunt, Olyvia Clark, Addie Egan, Lindsay Goad, Tori Johnson, Amelia Kelly, Kennedy Larson, Ashley Lemon, Marley Mayer, Adele Megaro, Vanessa Vega, Teagan Wheeling, and Kaley Wissing, finished second on day one advancing to the finals on day two. The kick team kept their second-place standing throughout day two. The girls were awarded second place in the country. They received a score of 93.16, while the national champion, Smithtown High School West in New York, received a score of 96.4.

Kennedy Larson, a sophomore, had a blast battling against the best of the best.

“My favorite part of competing at nationals was all the memories I made with my coaches and teammates throughout the trip,” Larson said.

They competed in the IHSDTA North Regional Competition on February 26 and were named regional champions, qualifying them for the state championship. On March 12, the dance team will compete in the IHSDTA State Championship. The State Championship will be held at Lafayette Jefferson High School and Chesterton is scheduled to perform at 3:09 P.M.
