CHS girls track and field competes in the first outdoor meet of the season

CHS girls track and field competed in their first outdoor meet of the spring season on Wednesday, April 6 against Gary Westside and Highland. The two teams couldn’t compare to the Trojans in size. The Lady Trojans are a team of 77 girls which is nearly the amount of athletes of the two other teams combined. Some of the CHS athletes even said it was almost like they were competing against their own teammates. Because of this, and the team’s preparation since early winter, the Trojans achieved first place in each of the 16 total events for the night including sprints, distance, and field events.

The runners had to endure massive gusts of wind, inconsistent rain, and awfully cold temperatures while they competed. However, the undeniable cheer and encouragement the Trojans had for their fellow teammates was impressive. After a long night, the girls left the track with a win, beginning the tally for the rest of their outdoor season. The Trojans will be competing again Tuesday, April 11 for their senior night against the Portage Indianas and the Merrillville Pirates. Results for each event can be found here.
