Hocus Pocus 2 Puts a Spell On You

New Film Brings Waves of Nostalgia

The long-awaited Hocus Pocus 2 finally came out last Friday and fans are overwhelmed with joy. It has been 29 years since the first film and to be honest it fits really well with the plot. The movie starts off with The Sanderson Sisters being accidentally brought back from their supposed end. Their initial plan is to find the mayor and kill him because in his past life he was a reverend who tried to separate them. While trying to complete their mission they also try to be the most powerful along with being young and beautiful. Hocus Pocus 2 was a perfect sequel to such a classic movie and continued to carry on the legacy of the original while also being very different.

This movie is nothing like the original. There are some parts of the movie that remind viewers of the first one, such as the Sanderson sisters singing to place a curse on the town.  The Sanderson Sisters meet some of their fans and the fans take a photo and the sisters are confused by it which I personally found very funny. Another great scene is when they thought they looked beautiful but then looked at the camera in the Walgreens and screamed. The movie really brings back some great memories from the first movie. Some parts that really stuck out to me is when the sisters were using slang or talking like we do now. We finally get to see Mary and Sarah get powers like Winifred. Seeing these two with such excitement to have powers was very heartwarming and sweet to watch. I was very sad to see them go for the last time and know what Winnie valued most was her sisters. The movie really brought the best out of the sisters.

In comparison to the first one, this film was good but it will never be the same as the first movie.  Even though there were some parts from the first film, they are still two completely different movies. For instance both  movies featured a black cat which is pretty cool and fun to see. In the first film it was Thackery Binx and now since he is dead there’s Cobweb who’s an actual cat. All the new things in this film along with the first film remarks really make this film great and funny.  For one, the first film gave Billy more screen time. Viewers also learn the real story behind Billy’s death and the way Winifred butchered the story to say that they were dating. In reality, however, they kissed once in a field.

Anyone who was a fan of the last film might just love this one. It was really great to see the sisters again.
