The Fearless Puss in Boots Takes On a New Adventure

Ashley Drury, Sandscript Author

Puss in Boots, the beloved feline character from the movie franchise Shrek, has come back to the screens again for his new movie Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. The Last Wish was released on December 21st, 2022, and Joel Crawford did a great job of directing the movie, the way it all came together made the movie stand out and not like a repeat of the first film. The voice actors for the film were Antonio Banderas who is returning as Puss in Boots and Salma Hayek who is returning as Kitty Softpaws. Florence Pugh voices Goldilocks, Harvey Guillen voices Perro, Olivia Colman voices Mama Bear, and Jack Horner is voiced by John Mulaney. The voice actor for Baby Bear is Samson Kayo, Da’Vine Joy Randolph voices Mama Luna, Wagner Moura voices the BIg Bad Wold, and Ray Winstone voices Papa Bear. Even though it is marketed as a children’s movie I found it enjoyable, humorous, and entertaining.

Puss in Boots: The Last Wish has an interesting storyline, as the movie follows Puss as he tries to regain his nine lives back, because he is living his last one. The movie also introduces a lovely, memorable, cheerful character named Perrito who joins Puss on his adventure. Kitty Softpaws, Puss’s former love interest, is also after the last wish joins them. The three set out on the quest for the last wish in hopes of getting there before Goldilocks and the three bears, as well as Jack Horner. The movie displays a wonderful message of being grateful for all that you have and not to live your life carelessly.

The movie’s comedy was enjoyable, whether it was with the smart witty comments between Puss and Kitty, or with Perrito, whose character is so innocent and positive that his and Puss’ interactions are hilarious. I also think that the message of the movie is what makes it loveable, seeing how the characters change throughout the movie leaves you with a sweet feeling at the end of the movie.

The animation style for this movie is different from its previously known style in the Shrek movies and Puss in Boots. There are mixed reactions among viewers, some prefer the style but others dislike the new animation style. Personally I found it to be a nice change, although if they produce a new Shrek I feel like the animation wouldn’t really fit, and that it should just stay in the Puss in Boots movies. As of now it is unsure if there will be a new Shrek, but many believe it was teased at the end of Puss in Boots: The Last Wish.

Puss in Boots: The Last Wish is a perfect film to watch with the family, with humor that anyone of all ages in the family can enjoy, it is safe to say that the loveable Puss in Boots is not going away anytime soon.
